Robert J. Gunn was the founding attorney of Gunn & Gunn (formerly Robert J. Gunn, P.C.). He practiced law for 52 years, serving as an assistant city attorney, city attorney, and municipal court judge before switching to private practice. Robert’s legacy was his commitment to providing high-caliber, client-focused legal representation to individuals and families throughout Oregon. His colleagues described him as a “patriarch to many attorneys,” a “legend,” and a “pillar of the Marion County legal community.” His dedication to the community and the legal profession continues to guide the firm’s work today. We honor his legacy and remain committed to the principles and values upon which he built the firm.
Marc W. Gunn
Marc W. Gunn is a zealous and relentless trial attorney based in Salem, Oregon. He has practiced law for over 30 years, with a focus on DUII and criminal defense. Marc was raised primarily in Salem and graduated from Sprague High School. Marc received his bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University and then attended Willamette University College of Law, continuing a family tradition of Willamette Law graduates. After graduating from Willamette Law in the 1995 class (the class with the highest bar passage rate in Oregon’s history excluding 2020), Marc joined his father, Robert Gunn, at the family law firm, creating Gunn & Gunn, P.C. As a second-generation member of the firm, Marc has spent his career continuing a tradition of personalized representation while adapting to the evolving challenges of legal practice.
Marc is licensed to practice in Oregon and regularly practices in Oregon state and city courts. Marc has represented hundreds of clients in circuit and municipal courts throughout the state in DUII and criminal matters, ranging from first-time DUII or Hit- and-Run offenses to DUII-related death cases (criminally negligent homicide and manslaughter charges). He is also admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the District of Oregon and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Over three decades of practice, Marc has successfully tried numerous cases before juries throughout Oregon and has extensive experience litigating complex evidentiary and constitutional issues. One of his favorite cases involved him being hired for a jury trial scheduled only two weeks later, and he excels at connecting with and persuading jurors. Clients appreciate Marc’s commitment to honesty in his communication. He believes that clients should be told the complete truth, fully advised on the risks of a trial before making decisions, and not be “sold” by their attorney.
Marc is a member of the Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyers Association (OCDLA). He presented at the 2026 DUII Defense Seminar on Reckless Mental States in DUII cases, discussing how to analyze a complex area of criminal law in the DUII context.
Outside the courtroom, Marc enjoys bringing people together. Whether it’s hosting board game nights, perfecting his barbecue skills (his smoked pulled pork is sensational), or spending time with his family, he values the connections and community that have always been central to his life.

Jana Gunn
Jana has been practicing in Oregon for over 18 years and is an associate Attorney with the firm. She graduated from Skyline High School in Salt Lake City, Utah. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Brigham Young University in Independent Studies. She graduated from Willamette University College of Law with a Juris Doctorate. Jana is a member of the state bars of Oregon, Arizona and Utah and is admitted to practice before the Oregon Federal District Court and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
In her free time Jana enjoys spending time with family, baking and cooking and anything involving chocolate. She is also a graduate of Ecole Chocolate.
Areas of practice include Bankruptcy, Wills, Probate, Guardianships and Conservatorships.
Marcus Gunn
Marcus A. Gunn is part of the next generation of Oregon criminal defense attorneys, combining his trial experience with a commitment to continuing legal education and professional service.
Marcus was born and raised in Salem, Oregon, where he graduated from Sprague High School in 2011. After graduation, he attended Brigham Young University for a year before serving a two-year religious mission in Brazil from 2012 to 2014, during which he became proficient in Portuguese. He then returned to BYU, where he graduated with a degree in Philosophy and a minor in Portuguese. Marcus remains fluent in Portuguese and has a basic understanding of Spanish, allowing him to work with Spanish-speaking clients.
After completing his bachelor’s, Marcus attended Willamette University College of Law as a Presidential Scholar. He was a member of both the Moot Court Board and the Willamette Law Review and graduated in the top 25% of his class. While attending law school, Marcus worked in Dallas, Oregon, with a criminal defense law firm as a certified law student, appearing regularly in court during the COVID-19 pandemic. He tried two DUII cases and four misdemeanor cases as a certified law student before being admitted to the Oregon State Bar in 2021. Marcus then joined his father and grandfather at Gunn & Gunn, where he carries on the family legacy. Marcus has argued more than 25 cases before a jury as a defense attorney during the first four years of practice. He is licensed to practice in all Oregon state and city courts, as well as in the federal District Court for the District of Oregon.
Marcus is an active member of the Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyers’ Association (OCDLA) and the National College for DUI Defense (NCDD). He regularly attends the OCDLA DUII Conference and NCDD webinars and conferences. He completed the NCDD Standardized Field Sobriety Test course in October 2024 and the Serious Science Seminar—Blood Alcohol training in August 2025. He is the executive editor of the 2025 OCDLA Trial Notebook and the primary editor for Chapter 9 on Jury Selection. He co-presented with Judge Courtland Geyer at the Marion County Circuit Court and at the September 2025 OCDLA All Things Jury Seminar on jury rehabilitation. He also organized the agenda for the 2026 OCDLA DUII Defense Seminar. OCDLA recognized Marcus’s contributions and achievements in June 2026 by granting him a President’s Award for his work on the Trial Notebook and the 2026 DUII Defense Seminar.
When out of the office, Marcus enjoys fishing and hunting, appreciating the beauty of Oregon’s great outdoors. Marcus also enjoys spending time with his wife and kids.
